When it comes to hitting the beach, your makeup mantra should be similar to that of your clothing: less is always more. A full face of makeup is not only a big no no, it’s also very impractical, especially if you plan on going into the actual water. The point is to look like a sunnier version of yourself, not a made-up one. Here are 5 natural makeup tips for beaching it.
Protect the Skin You’re In
Before you even think of applying makep, think about your SPF first. And while sunscreen should be a year-round commitment, it’s even more important when you are thinking of spending a good amount of time outdoors. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen at least 20 minutes before heading outside in order for it to soak into skin and protect properly. If you are really looking to downsize your makeup application time, think about incorporating a product that multitasks like a BB or CC Cream. These all-in-one formulas not only protect your skin, they also hydrate, prime and provide great coverage, but they are not waterproof, so be prepared to reapply often.
If you can skip your foundation, concealer or any type of coverage altogether, then more power to you. As for the rest of us who don’t have that luxury, think sheer and light when heading to the beach. Tinted moisturizers are wonderful as they provide your skin with a dewy healthy glow. However, if you feel naked without your go-to foundation, then try mixing it in with your moisturizer for a much lighter finish. For oilier skin, we recommend going with a powder-based transcluscent powder, as hanging out in the sun will only increase the oil production on your face.
Because you want to enhance your natural tan, any bronzer you choose should look right in the bright sun. As a result, you should skip any bronzer that has shimmer in it. For the most natural look, lightly dust bronzer on the apple of your cheeks, right above your cheekbones, forehead, chin and eyelids. Follow up by applying a bit of pink blush on your cheeks and you are good to go.
Give Your Lashes a Break
Consider giving your lashes a break by wearing clear mascara instead of the usual black or brown. Even if your mascara is waterproof, there is bound to be some sort of smudging or eye mishap if your’e spending the day out in the heat. By going with clear mascara, you will keeps your lashes glossy and groomed without having to worry about sporting racoon eyes. Same goes for eyeliner, if you must line your eyes, stick to a nude pencil, which is also another great way to get that wide-eyed look.
So Long Gloss
Skip any type of sticky lip gloss in favor of a lip stain or a tinted lip balm as lipgloss will slide right off in the heat. A tinted lip balm will give your lips just the right amount of color, without looking like you fussed over your makeup choice, while a lip stain will give your look a a long-lasting polished feel.
